The Washing Machine of Worry
Written by Jane Trimarco
Where does strength come from? We all need physical strength every day, but what we tend to forget is we need emotional strength, which on our own will always be a battle. We need to ask God to help us, to equip us, and to walk with us every day!
We all have battles every day: the stress of our own health, the stress of our family’s health, worries about work – the list goes on. We pray we can all have good health because of God’s love for us. But we should never ever think we are immune to the troubles of life.
The nicest person you know has their own challenges. When someone asks us “how are you today?”, we always answer, “I’m fine thanks, how are you?” We don’t want to burden other people. But sometimes it’s good to share our burdens and feel free of the worry cycle that can occur.
When we have worries, it’s like a washing machine whirling round and round – but it doesn’t get us anywhere. It’s then that we need to press stop!!!! And reach out for God.
As a registered Manager I always remember the days where I made sure I had asked God for His support and protection for what seemed unachievable, or a very stressful day actually all worked out well. God doesn’t want us to worry. He wants us to talk to Him. He is our friend, comforter, our all in all.
God wants us to be happy! He doesn’t want us to worry! As the lyrics to many a song says, “don’t worry, be happy!” and remember when you smile the whole world smiles with you! Strength is a gift of the Lord that gives us an internal fortitude that enables us to stand firm for His sake and for His truth.
Strength from God offers numerous benefits that help us overcome challenges, find comfort, and grow in our faith. By relying on God’s strength we can face life’s difficulties confidently and experience a deeper connection with Him.
God strengthens us to serve. The strength you need for today isn’t something for you to keep to yourself, but to spend for the good of others. When God showers us with His grace and sends us His strength, He means for it to be spent in love for the needs and interests of people in our lives.
‘God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way, and the mountains fall into heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.’ Psalm 46:1-3
God is the ultimate source of strength. It’s OK to ask God for help and for Him to intervene. God is always there for us, whatever we need. Others may not know about our struggles, but it’s up to us to admit to God that we have struggles and worries. So, let’s go to the throne of grace together.
‘Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light’. Matthew 11:28-30
