Trusting in God
Written by Carol Jackson
As we start our day today, I know we want to trust God. The dictionary defines trust as ‘to believe in the reliability, ability or strength of something’. So, when it comes to trusting God, that means believing in His reliability, His Word, His ability and His strength. The Bible says that God cannot lie. That He always keeps His promises.
Proverbs 3 verses 1-6 reads:
My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favour and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Trusting God is an essential element of true and saving faith that looks to God and finds peace, strength, contentment, and much more in Him, and all that He has done, is doing, and will do, both now and forever in His Son Jesus Christ.
We have faith to trust God. In some situations, that is easier said than done! We sometimes think things will be easier if we take it into our own hands. Nobody ever said having faith would be easy, but it will be worth it. Why?
1. He Knows Better Than We Do
God knows everything we are going through at this very moment and everything we will go through in the future. He knows the best way to handle every situation, so we get the best possible outcome and we need to trust Him with that. We need to follow His path and trust that He knows best, because He does.
2. All Things Are Possible With God
Anything is possible with God. He has your back and will help you through anything. All you have to do is have faith. And remember that faith isn’t a feeling but a choice to trust in our heavenly Father.
3. He Knows What He Is Doing
God knows exactly what He wants for our lives. He has a purpose for us all and has everything planned out. We don’t need to doubt His plan, because He knows all and He has a perfect plan for each of us.
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water, with roots that reach down to the stream. They will not fear when hot winds blow; their leaves will be green. They will not be worried by thirst, nor will they ever be troubled."
Jeremiah 17:7-8
So we can compare ourselves to a well-rooted tree, able to thrive even in difficult times, as long as we trust in God. Let’s never forget He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving.
Let’s pray.
Dear God, we come before you today seeking guidance and strength. We know that you are a good and loving God, and we trust in your perfect plan for our lives. Help us all to trust in your timing, even when we don't understand. Grant us the continued courage to follow your will, even when it's challenging. Let us see your hand at work in our lives today and always, and to trust that your love and care will always be with all of us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
