Caring Under Our Creator’s Smile
Written by Ruth Clemence
I recently visited the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales for the first time. As my eyes caught a glimpse of it, I was in awe; words could not quite describe it. The deep blue sky was a beautiful backdrop, with cumulus clouds scattering the canvas like puffy marshmallows. The terrain towered around, inviting me into its longstanding history. Many people in the past would have laid wide-eyed upon this treasured landscape. I felt I was let in on a big secret; it was a hidden gem placed there for a moment to lift my eyes to the Lord in wonder.
What does this have to do with care?
Jesus cares for His creation. But we are the pinnacle of His creation (see Ephesians 1:3.-14). If we can look at the beauty of a landscape in absolute wonder, we can catch a glimmer of how the Lord smiles upon us - His beloved children. He rejoices over us. When we care for another image bearer, we are displaying our Creator’s loving care. We can point to Jesus in what we say and do as He directs our steps.
I may have been lost for words at the brilliance of the Brecon Beacons, but I was filled up with praise for our God whose idea it was in the first place. The Word of God spoke and all of His creation came to be. Nothing is outside His purposes. He designs, creates, and amazes us. He is the Lord of all. This should comfort and reassure us in our every moment. Especially in our caregiving.
He sees you. He knows you. He loves you.
Throughout our days and nights, may we taste and see that the Lord is good. If you are feeling depleted, anxious, or unsure about the day ahead, may I gently direct your gaze towards our Saviour and His words found on the pages of the Bible. Let Christ fill you with truth. Himself. He is the Word. Ask Him for the wisdom you need and follow His lead. Be comforted by Christ who cares for you.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps round those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!”
